US national team head coach Gregg Berhalter has called in New York City FC midfielder Jonathan Lewis for the annual January training camp as a late addition to the squad, US Soccer announced on Friday.

Lewis, 21, has three goals and four assists in 25 MLS career regular season appearances to date, almost all of those off the bench.

The Akron product has not made an appearance to date at senior USMNT level, but has been a member of the US U-20 squad and helped that team win the 2017 Concacaf U-20 Championship. He is one of eight to receive their first senior call-up and one of 13 looking for their first senior cap on the current roster.

The USMNT camp will begin on Jan. 6 at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The camp will wrap up with friendlies against Panama at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. on Jan. 27, and against Costa Rica at Avaya Stadium on Feb. 2.
