Gonzalez burst onto the scene late in 2015, making his MLS debut on August 22 and starting FC Dallas’ final 11 regular season matches and all four of their playoff contests. The Mexican-American did enough to earn a call-up to the US national team’s January camp, but turned Jurgen Klinsmann down, opting instead to attend a Mexican youth national team camp.
The 21-year-old began the season as FCD’s starter, but was eventually replaced by capable veteran Chris Seitz. He’s earned spot starts here and there, and will certainly look to reclaim his spot as Dallas’ full-time goalkeeper as soon as possible.

“He’s got very good size. A player that you can tell is being taught how to play out of the back and is an option to play balls with his feet and eliminate pressure.”
“For a player of his age, for him to be this casual on the ball with pressure is certainly a nice quality to have. As far as shot-stopping, he certainly can make those plays. And for a young kid with that frame, I think he’ll only get stronger.”
“I would say if there’s one critique, it’s almost that he’s too casual, which is very rare with a player that young.”
