Sporting Kansas City's loyal home supporters at Children's Mercy Park have become a reliable source of some of Major League Soccer's best tifo in recent years, and on Sunday they added to their impressive portfolio.
In a good-natured poke at the visiting Portland Timbers, the supporters' groups in CM Park's north end unveiled a fiery Smokey the Bear-themed tifo just prior to kickoff:
But the sizeable band of Timbers traveling supporters also unfurled a message of their own.
While not as large in size, it held a potent sting, reminding the home side of the epic penalty-kick shootout between these two teams in last year's Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, a skin-of-the-teeth victory for Portland that sparked their run to the 2015 league title.
