Inter Miami CF have acquired defensive midfielder Gregore from Esporte Clube Bahia, the club announced Wednesday.

Gregore, who turns 27 at the beginning of March, had spent his entire career in his native Brazil. With Bahia, he made 120 appearances across all competitions, including 14 in the continental competition Copa Sudamericana. Prior to Bahia, Gregore came through the Clube Atlético Joseense academy before joining São Carlos Futebol Clube.

“Gregore is a player who has been on my radar for some time, and we are very pleased to bring him to Inter Miami ahead of the 2021 MLS season,” chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in a club statement. “He has a great engine and brings balance and stability to the central midfield.”

The defensive midfielder will likely slot next to Blaise Matuidi, offering a heightened defensive presence next to the World Cup winner.

Miami struggled in their expansion season, though qualified for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. They underwent significant structural changes this winter, with Phil Neville replacing Diego Alonso as head coach and Henderson joining to lead the front office.

Gregore and English defender Ryan Shawcross are the club's two key senior additions thus far this winter.
