Impact, Toronto FC punch tickets to CanChamp final

The Canadian Championship final is officially set, as the Montreal Impact and Toronto FC each punched their ticket with semifinal victories on Wednesday.


Toronto will look to clinch its fourth straight Canadian Championship title, while Montreal will aim for its first crown since 2014. The bout will mark a rematch of the 2017 final, which the Reds took 3-2 on aggregate. Itā€™s the fourth time the sides will meet in the final overall, with the Impact coming out as champions in both 2014 and 2008. Toronto have historically dominated the tournament, winning it in seven of 11 seasons since the inaugural edition in 2008.


TFC moved through in dominant fashion, finishing off a 5-0 aggregate romp over Ottawa Fury FC with a 3-0 result at BMO Field on Wednesday. The Impact had a bit tougher sledding, but managed to dispatch of Cavalry FC by a 3-1 aggregate score with a 1-0 result at ATCO Field on Wednesday night.


The two-leg final will kick off on September 18, with the second leg coming September 25.
