Ignacio Piatti close up - Montreal Impact

Ignacio Piatti's future has been in the air for much of the 2019 season, but the Montreal Impact star himself wants to stick around.

Despite reports earlier this year linking Piatti to a return to his native Argentina in 2020, followed up by Impact president Kevin Gilmore recently saying the club would decide the star's future at the club soon, Piatti spoke up about his future at training on Friday, per TVA Sports' Nancy Audet, saying he would like to begin next season with the Impact.

He added in his comments to the media that if it were up to him he'd like to stay, but that the decision was in the hands of the club.

Piatti, 34, has endured a difficult season, missing much of the campaign due to injury and making just 10 league appearances, notching three goals and an assist. But he returned to play a pivotal role in Montreal's 2019 Canadian Championship triumph, taking the Golden Boot in that competition with four goals.

That Canadian Championship title has set up Montreal to potentially kick off the 2020 season with a bang, as they will play in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League, returning to the competition for the first time since their run to the final in 2015.
