TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The Houston Dynamo have signed veteran defender Maynor Figueroa, the club announced Wednesday. Figueroa spent the last three seasons with FC Dallas.

Figueroa, 34, made 70 appearances with FCD over the last three years and had his option declined after the 2018 season in which he started 11 matches.

“Maynor is a consummate professional who will bring invaluable experience, quality and leadership to our team both on the field and in our locker room,” said Dynamo GM Matt Jordan in a media release. “We welcome him to the Houston Dynamo as we prepare for the 2019 season.”

Figueroa has featured for Honduras at two World Cups and three Gold Cups, amassing 148 caps in his international career. He spent eight seasons in the Premier League prior to joining Major League Soccer.

“We are really excited about bringing Maynor to our club. He is an icon, a well-known leader with the Honduran National Team. He is the captain. Adding his experience, as a center back and a left back in this league, is invaluable,” head coach Wilmer Cabrera said. “We believe he is going to bring good experience and give us depth and help solidify our backline. He was excited to be part of our project and having him in our team will be a big help to us.”

The Dynamo kick off their 2019 season in the Concacaf Champions League against Guastatoya on Feb. 19.
