Player of the Matchday

Hat trick nets De Rosario Player of the Week honors

Dwayne De Rosario and Joao Plata.

For the second straight week, Dwayne De Rosario torched a former team. And for the second straight week, his performance has earned him Player of the Week honors, as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters.

The D.C. United attacking midfielder went off for a hat trick against Toronto FC on Saturday, helping a 10-man United—who played man-down for more than 80 minutes—limp their way to a 3-3 home draw. It’s now six goals in as many matches for the Canadian international, and he has been in top form since joining DC on June 27 from the New York Red Bulls.

De Rosario becomes the first player to win the MLS Player of the Week twice this season, garnering 11 of the 15 first-place votes. He finished well ahead of second-place finisher Eric Hassli of Vancouver, whose two goals and an assist paced the Whitecaps to a 4-2 home win over the Chicago Fire.
