There are plenty of professional soccer players who don't take the "normal" route to success. But there are certainly few who have had the journey of New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles.

Profiled this week by Leander Schaerlaeckens in The New York Times, Robles explains he wasn't just close to retiring when he was picked up by New York in 2012 -- he had moved on and gotten a new job outside of soccer. And even without having trained, the Red Bulls were impressed with the rusty one-time US national team player.

And there's much more to Robles' journey in the profile. Be sure to check it out.
