Gringo Report: Acuna drops a level to Merida FC

Isaac Acuna del Club America

GUADALAJARA, Mexico — Isaac Acuña has moved from Club América to Mexican second-division side Mérida FC for the upcoming Clausura 2012 season, the Mexican soccer federation has confirmed.

Olympic hopeful Acuña featured in six games for las Agúilas last season but was only on the field for a total of 71 minutes.

The Calexico, Calif., native made headlines back in August when he was suspended from the América first-team squad for a week for indiscipline.

Acuña's new team, based in the state of Yucatán, is an affiliate of Primera División outfit Atlante. Los Venados, as Mérida are known, finished in 15th place in the Liga de Ascenso last season, with 13 points from 15 games.
