Gignac gifts Atlanta's Josef Martinez a Tigres jersey in Monterrey meetup

Josef Martinez, Andre-Pierre Gignac - with Tigres jersey in Monterrey - THUMB ONLY

Game recognize game, they say.

That truism was at work as reigning MLS goal king Josef Martinez crossed paths with Andre-Pierre Gignac, the Tigres UANL striker who ranks as one of Liga MX's brightest stars, during Atlanta United's Concacaf Champions League trip to Monterrey.

The Five Stripes are in the Mexican city to play Monterrey, Tigres' bitter crosstown rivals, in the first leg of their highly-anticipated CCL quarterfinal series on Thursday. And with Gignac hampered by a knee problem that prevented him from traveling to Texas with his teammates for their CCL match vs. the Houston Dynamo on Tuesday, the Frenchman chatted up his Venezuelan counterpart and presented him with an authentic Tigres jersey.

APG captured the moment in an Instagram story, and retired MLS/US national team striker Herculez Gomez, now an ESPN commentator, took notice.

While it might look like Gignac is making a pitch for Josef to play elsewhere, he has been linked to MLS teams, most notably the LA Galaxy, several times over the past few years.

Or perhaps they'll meet up again in the CCL final later this spring.
