Galaxy 2, Chivas USA 0 -- quote sheet

LOS ANGELES GALAXY 2, CHIVAS USA 0

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON

On the match:
"I think it was a tale of two halves. In the first half, I thought Chivas did a good job of bringing a lot of energy to the game and controlling the rhythm of the match. In the second half, the addition of Cobi [Jones] and Chris [Albright] on the right side and obviously Herculez [Gomez] coming in made the difference."

"I'm very happy with the result. We haven't won in a while. Obviously, I'm very happy with being 3-0 in the series. That's very important to us, but now we have a big match on Monday that we have to prepare for tomorrow."

On Herculez Gomez:
"Three goals in three games and one assist. An awful lot of credit obviously needs to go to him for his eye for the goal and the energy that he brought to the field, not only offensively, but also defensively. Normally, I would've substituted him off the field with the injury that he had sustained, but we didn't have any substitutions so he had to stay on and he gutted it out and he did a great job."

On Troy Roberts:
"I'm very proud of Troy Roberts. I thought he played a solid match tonight. Sometimes, when you have a guy like Herculez that scores two goals you forget about what's happening on the other end and I thought Troy showed a lot of composure tonight."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD HERCULEZ GOMEZ

On two goals against Chivas USA:
"I'm just so overwhelmed, I can't describe it. I have so many emotions going through my head. This is for the people that matter to me, my friends and family. We needed this win. I was a little bit hurt in the game, but my teammates stuck with me and I got through it."

On breaking the winless streak:
"It's always good to win at home, especially in a game like this, the Honda Super Clasico. I'm so thrilled right now. I didn't think I would get the chance, but my teammates stuck with me. I was on the sidelines when they told me they wanted to put me in. Thank goodness I put one in. I'm so happy right now."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY DEFENDER TODD DUNIVANT

On the emotion of winning the inaugural Honda Super Clasico:
"We didn't get off to a good start in the first half, they had a lot of energy. For whatever reason, they came out and were flying and we were flat. In the second half, we came out and weathered their storm, and we did a good job keeping everything in front of us. They never really got any serious dangerous chances. We did a good job limiting their chances, and that keep us in the game. It's a little bit different than the way we have been playing, where we are all over the team and they get a cheap goal. It was good all over team defense. Herculez came out with a couple of goals and it gave us the cushion that we needed and we built off that."

On the importance of the win:
"It was a must win, we have another game on Monday and it hasn't been a good stretch for us. So we needed the win bad, and we got it."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY DEFENDER CHRIS ALBRIGHT

On returning from injury:
"It's good to get back; obviously I played a little bit differently than I would have. I just tried to stay back and feel the game out. We got a goal kind of early so I was able to sit back. It was a good game to get back (into the flow)."

On his fitness:
"I had a lot of nerves actually. It'd been a long time out, I was worried about my fitness more than anything. I felt pretty fit and I didn't have to do too much work. I felt fitter than I thought I'd feel. I'll probably feel a little sore tomorrow. Three points, six points behind Dallas. We got the result in New England, we needed it and the boys got it."

CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH HANS WESTERHOF

On the game:
"We're very disappointed, because we lost three points tonight. It's tough because I think that, particularly in the first half and for much of the second, we played well, we played better than the Galaxy. We took the initiative, we played 80 percent of the game in the Galaxy's half of the field and we had nearly twice as many goalscoring opportunities. But unfortunately those things don't count, only goals and points."

On his feelings after the game:
"My congratulations to the Galaxy. As a coach you can never be content after a loss, in a game where we did everything we could with our team, but we didn't have anything more. We tried combinations, crossing passes, we had a great attitude in midfield. And yet none of that was enough."

CHIVAS USA FORWARD ANTONIO MARTÍNEZ

On what went wrong tonight:
"We were unable to find the back of the net. I think that in the first half we dominated, we were more aggressive and we came out to win the game. But we did not get the result we wanted and we're very disappointed."

On what lies ahead for Chivas USA:
"I think we're getting better. We managed to get two wins in a row (last week) and that motivated us. Now all that's left is to keep trying, not lower our heads and focus on our next opponent, the [New England] Revolution."

CHIVAS USA MIDFIELDER JESÚS OCHOA

On his role in tonight's game:
"I had the responsibility of filling in for [suspended Chivas USA captain] Ramón [Ramírez], and I gave it all I had. Plus it was an important game against my former team. I felt like we did everything we could to win tonight, and still we lost."

On the course of the match:
"We dominated the game, but they took advantage of two mistakes by us to score their two goals."
