FSC to air MLS vs. Real Madrid

Major League Soccer fans across the U.S. will have the chance to see some of the best players in U.S. soccer take on some of the best players in the world on Tuesday as Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Espanol will televise live the Trofeo Santiago Bernabeau, when the MLS Select Team will take on Real Madrid in the Spanish capital. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET for Real's traditional season-opening encounter with an international competition.

Begun in 1979, the Trofeo Santiago Bernabeau, which is named for Real Madrid's legendary manager who also has his name on the club's stadium, has featured legendary teams from around the world. This year's event marks the first time ever an U.S. team will face the 29-time La Liga champions. Real Madrid open their Spanish league season the following Sunday (Aug. 28) with a match vs. Cadiz.

The roster that will make the trip to Madrid was also announced Friday, and New England Revolution head coach Steve Nicol and his staff will oversee the squad. Nicol took part in the Trofeo Santiago Bernabeau as a member of the Liverpool team that fell 2-0 to Real in 1989.

Times for rebroadcasts of the match have not been released yet by Fox Soccer Channel or Fox Sports en Espanol.
