Wil Trapp - warmup - closeup

Wil Trapp's offseason trade from Columbus Crew SC to Inter Miami CF was an emotional move for the 27-year-old midfielder.

The trade meant Trapp's exit from his hometown club and the only franchise he'd ever known as a professional. Trapp grew up in Columbus, played four seasons in the US Soccer Development Academy with Crew SC and became one of the team's most beloved players while making 185 first-team appearances from 2013-2019. That's the type of bond between a player and fans that can't be broken, even with Trapp changing scenery with last month's trade to Miami for up to $300,000 in General Allocation Money.

To give his final send-off, Trapp took out a full-page ad in Sunday's Columbus Dispatch to give his thanks to the Crew fanbase.

"What can I say?" Trapp wrote. "You've been my home since I was a boy. You embraced me as a son and held me close for 27 years. I will never be the same because of you, and I will carry you wherever I go."
