FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas announced today that the club has reached an agreement with midfielder Mark Wilson that releases him from his contract and allows him to pursue playing opportunities in Europe.
"We want to thank Mark for his contributions to FC Dallas over the past year," said FC Dallas head coach Colin Clarke. "He is a true professional on and off the field and wish him all the best."
A native of England, Wilson arrived in Dallas in the spring of 2005 but was not eligible to play until the second transfer window opened in August. After officially joining the team in September of that year, he went on to start seven of the final eight regular season games as well as both playoff games.
In 2006, Wilson played in 12 of FC Dallas' first 16 games before tendonitis in his left Achilles tendon forced him to sidelines following the home match against D.C. United on July 4. Wilson scored his lone goal for the team on April 8, 2005, a goal that proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake at Pizza Hut Park.
Wilson will continue to use the FC Dallas training facilities until he can complete any potential moves overseas.
