FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez reports to Mexico Under-23 national team camp

FC Dallas signs Anibal Chala

FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez reported on Sunday to a Mexico Under-23 national team training camp, the club announced on Monday.

The camp, which is taking place in Mexico City, will run through Wednesday. The Mexico U-23s qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games last fall; they’ll attempt to defend their gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics at the Rio games this summer.

This is the second time the 20-year-old Gonzalez has been called by the Mexican U-23s this year. The first time came in January, when he declined to join the US national team’s January camp to instead train with Mexico’s Olympic squad.

Gonzalez, who played for Mexico at last year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup, was born in the US and is therefore eligible to make a one-time national team switch to the USMNT. He’s eligible to make that switch until he plays in a competitive game with El Tri’s senior team.
