FC Dallas in the Community: May 27

FC Dallas in the Community provides information on the FC Dallas Foundation and Community Relations activities for the forth-coming week.

FUNDS DONATED TO UNICEF AND THE FRISCO MIRACLE LEAGUE:

On Sunday, May 18, the FC Dallas Foundation and the Los Angeles Galaxy presented checks in the amount of $22,500 each to U.S. Funds for UNICEF and the Frisco Miracle League prior to the FC Dallas vs. Los Angeles Galaxy game at Pizza Hut Park. The funds were raised through the FC Dallas Foundation Charity Game, a preseason game that took place between the two teams at Pizza Hut Park on March 15.

U.S. Funds for UNICEF will apply the money toward its child survival programs and help improve the lives of vulnerable children in over 150 countries. The Frisco Miracle League plans to use the funds for participant scholarships, soccer fields for Miracle League games, operating expenses, and sports equipment (goals, benches, fencing).

MAKITA / NOTHING BUT NETS:

Makita has pledged to save more than 10,000 lives with the help of MLS fans and teams this year. During the months of May and June, players and fans are doing their part to send a net and save a life. Fans will have the opportunity to donate for the Team Up for Nets Challenge at the Foundation tent at the north concourse.

FC Dallas defender Adrian Serioux, along with other MLS players, will be wearing a Nothing But Nets patch on their jerseys through June 30. These game-worn jerseys will be available for purchase through MLS Auctions later this year, with all proceeds directly benefiting the Nothing But Nets campaign. From now through June 30 fans can donate online at www.nothingbutnets.net/mlsworks. In addition to donating to the Nothing But Nets Campaign, fans can show support by bidding on MLS game-worn jerseys.

Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. A donation to Nothing But Nets covers the cost of purchasing a bed net, distributing it and educating communities on its use.

PASSBACK CAMPAIGN:

Now through October 11, FC Dallas will be collecting new and gently used soccer gear and equipment for the US Soccer Foundation's Passback program. The Passback Program is a grassroots initiative designed to help meet the soccer uniform and equipment needs of all communities, regardless of income, gender or location. The goal of the program is to increase the collection of new and gently used gear and equipment by 40% in disadvantaged and "at-risk" soccer communities nationally and abroad. Pizza Hut Park and FC Dallas will be accepting donations of soccer equipment at all remaining home games this season. Click here for a special note from FC Dallas Passback spokesman Drew Moor.
