FC Dallas' Clavijo denies any deals for Castillo, but "a lot of interest"

Fabian Castillo has long been the subject of transfer speculation thanks to his eye-catching performances over the years with FC Dallas. The latest rumor took flight on Friday and continued throughout the weekend, when various Turkish media outlets linked Castillo with a move to top-flight outfit Trabzonspor:

Various reports had Castillo leaving for a fee of anywhere from €1.2 million to €3 million.

In response to the rumors, FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo on Friday denied that there was any deal in place for Castillo, and even pulled out his phone to show reporters a text message about even another rumor regarding the player.

“They pop up everywhere. This is a crime that is not penalized. It’s a shame people put this out when there’s nothing to it," Clavijo told reporters about the constant rumors surrounding Castillo. “We’ve talked about it before. We always have people inquiring about Fabian. They’d be crazy not to.

“But in coming to terms, we haven’t done it yet, and we’ve talked to a lot of clubs, that’s for sure. There’s a lot of interest in him, without a doubt.”

Castillo, 24, has been a mainstay for FC Dallas since joining the club five years ago. He has scored 33 goals and 28 assists over 155 regular-season appearances and was named to the top of MLSsoccer.com's 24 Under 24 list in 2015. He also received his first call-up to the Colombian national team in 2015 and has totaled three appearances for his country to date.
