FC Dallas buoyed by May run

After Sunday's 2-1 win against Real Salt Lake, FC Dallas has now won three consecutive matches, all by the same score. Not only does it represent the Hoops' longest winning streak of 2007, but it also sets them up to finish with a 4-0 record in the month of May for only the second time in club history.

One fact making FCD's current streak all the more impressive is that all three of those wins have come in the last eight days. The Hoops started off with a 2-1 win at Kansas City May 12, their first win at Arrowhead Stadium since 1999. Then, on Thursday, they beat Chicago 2-1 for their ninth win in 11 matches against their Brimstone Cup rivals. Sunday's victory against Real Salt Lake made them 5-0-0 all-time against the Utah club at home.

The streak started after the Hoops finished April on a pair of down notes. On April 29, they fell 1-0 to New England in Frisco, a game that was characterized by a lack of good opportunities near the Revs goal for FCD.

That loss came just three days after the New York Red Bulls stormed into Pizza Hut Park, dominated possession and left with a 1-0 victory. Both of those setbacks drove FCD as they had nearly two weeks off before playing at K.C. on May 12.

"We were disappointed after our two straight home losses a few weeks ago, but we redeemed ourselves (Sunday)," said FCD right back Drew Moor after the RSL win. "But there's still a long way to go."

FCD head coach Steve Morrow clearly likes what he has seen from his side during the streak.

"It's good," he said. "It's been a tough stretch, going away to Kansas City and Chicago, which were both tough games. Full credit to the boys because three wins out of three is a tremendous average. Three games in a week is a tough stretch. We needed the whole roster. Credit to everyone involved."

"It's always nice," said right back Drew Moor. "To get nine points in three games, you can't get any better than that. We have some video to go over and things to fix as you always do in games, but we're very happy with where we are right now."

On Saturday, the Hoops will travel to face Chivas USA to close out the month. Another win and FCD will go 4-0 in May for the first time since 1997. Last year, FCD did not win a single match at The Home Depot Center.

They made that right a bit earlier this year when they beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 on April 12, but haven't beaten Chivas on their home field since May 22, 2005, when they dispatched the then-expansion club 5-2.

"I don't know if it's a lucky month for us, but we're playing good soccer right now," said FCD midfielder Dax McCarty. "It comes down to our depth. Our depth will be real important for us again this year. Ultimately, that's what is going to get us through the season."

Sunday's win came on May 20, the same date that the 2006 Hoops got their fifth win. That team finished the regular season with a 16-12-4 record and a club-record 48 points, just four points behind Supporters' Shield-winning D.C. United.
