Fabian Johnson - US national team

Fabian Johnson will become a free agent at the end of the Bundesliga season, Borussia Monchengladbach announced Monday.

Johnson’s contract is set to expire, making him a free agent who can sign wherever he pleases. The defender/midfielder has scored twice in 57 appearances with the US men’s national team, though hasn’t featured since a September 2017 World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica.

Johnson, 32, has been with Monchengladbach since the 2014-15 campaign, registering 140 appearances, 15 goals and 19 assists with the club. Previous stops for the German-American include 1860 Munich, VfL Wolfsburg and 1899 Hoffenheim. He’s also made 24 appearances in the Europa League and Champions league across stints with Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg.

As a senior USMNT player, any return for FabJo to MLS would require him going through the allocation order. LAFC currently holds the top spot, with the full distribution found here

Johnson has been linked to FC Cincinnati in years past, though the deal never come to fruition.
