Miguel Almiron - Newcastle United - celebrates a goal - July 1, 2020

Former Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron continued to show some of the quality that earned him a multi-million dollar move to the Premier League, scoring a superb solo goal for Newcastle United on Wednesday.

The Paraguayan playmaker, who did not start but entered the game early as a 33rd-minute substitute, used his pace combined with some slack Bournemouth defending to drive into the air before stroking the ball home with his weaker right foot.

The goal, which put Newcastle up 3-0, was Almiron's third in the Premier League and seventh in all competitions in the 2019-20 season. He also has two assists in league play for the Magpies, who went on to top Bournemouth 4-1 and sit 13th in the Premier League standings with six games to play. US international DeAndre Yedlin also featured off the bench for Newcastle, entering in the 73rd minute.

Almiron was not the only notable MLS alumnus to score in England on Wednesday. Former D.C. United star and retired England international Wayne Rooney, now playing for Derby County in the second-division Championship, scored a beautiful free kick to secure a 1-0 win over Preston North End, keeping his team within one point of the final promotion playoff spot:

Rooney has been instrumental in Derby's quest to gain Premier League status since arriving from D.C. in January. Wednesday's goal marked his fifth tally in 14 appearances for the Rams, along with two assists.
