CF Montréal have signed forward Erik Hurtado as a free agent through 2021 with an option for 2022, the club announced Tuesday.

Hurtado, 30, has been in MLS since 2013 and had previous stops at Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He's tallied 19 goals and 10 assists in 133 games (58 starts), reaching a personal-high of five goals on two different occasions.

"We are happy with the acquisition of Erik,” sporting director Olivier Renard said in a club release. “He’s a versatile player with many seasons of experience in MLS. As he was available, we took this opportunity to add him to our squad.”

Hurtado is a former US youth international who entered MLS via the 2013 MLS SuperDraft when Vancouver picked him No. 5 overall out of Santa Clara. He spent a brief portion of the 2015 season on loan at Norwegian club Mjondalen IF, but has otherwise stayed in MLS.

By signing Hurtado, Montréal continue to reshape their offense heading into the new campaign. They previously signed Bjorn Johnsen and Sunusi Ibrahim this offseason, plus acquired Mason Toye last year via a trade with Minnesota United FC. Montreal made the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in 2020, though exited in the Play-In Round against the New England Revolution.
