D.C.'s Eskandarian named 'Player of the Week'

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United's Alecko Eskandarian has been named as the MLS Player of the Week, following his two-goal performance in United's 4-1 win over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Eskandarian opened the score sheet for the visitors in the 41st minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and driving a low shot past a diving Tony Meola. He then doubled the lead with a left-footed blast, following some quick passes from Brian Carroll and Ben Olsen.

Eskandarian missed most of 2005 after he suffered a concussion on June 18. He has three goals in four games (two starts) thus far in 2006. He is the second United player to earn the Player of the Week award in 2006, as Jaime Morneo earned Week 2 honors following his two goals against Chivas USA. The New Jersey native is no stranger to the award, having won Player of the Week honors twice in 2004 - Week 12 and Week 24.

The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected every week throughout the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA).
