DC United's Bobby Boswell suspended, will miss playoff match vs. Red Bulls

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended D.C. United defender Bobby Boswell for one game for endangering the safety of an opponent, the league announced Friday.

Boswell will now miss the first leg of D.C.'s Eastern Conference Semifinal matchup with the New York Red Bulls, set to take place on Sunday afternoon (3 pm ET; ESPN).

The suspension results from an off-the-ball incident involving New England Revolution forward Juan Agudelo in the 69th minute of D.C.’s Knockout Round match against the Revs. Boswell was shown a yellow card by referee Mark Geiger. The incident was not captured by the broadcast cameras, but was captured by the in-stadium panoramic cameras.

Minutes later, Agudelo was forced to sub off. Speaking to the media after the game, the Revs forward expressed his feelings about the incident.

Boswell, however, defended himself after the game, saying, “We were just battling – kind of off-the-ball stuff, hitting each other. I got him with a knee. Those things happen.

"He knows I was battling. I’ll apologize to him. I was never trying to hurt him, just trying to get position and, you know, it was just one of those plays.”
