DC United, New York Red Bulls stand against racism, violence against Black community with jersey patches

DC United - Anti Racism jersey patch - THUMB ONLY

D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls will both wear patches on their jerseys in solidarity against racism and violence against the Black Community.

The patches depict a raised black fist inside a black ring, with the words "Black Lives Matter" written on one side of the ring and "Say Their Names" on the other. They'll be worn during the teams' meeting at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night (7:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in the US and DAZN in Canada).

D.C. in particular has been one of the more vocal clubs supporting protests that have followed the killing of George Floyd in late May and the shooting of Jacob Blake in August by police officers.

In June, players, coaches and select supporters painted the words "I Can't Breathe," a reference to Floyd's pleas for help while being kneeled upon by Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin, and the abbreviation "BLM" for Black Lives Matter on the Audi Field pitch, amid widespread protests in the city.
