Davis back on the pitch for first time

For Brad Davis, Wednesday was a big step.

For the first time since undergoing knee surgery on July 5, the Dynamo midfielder practiced with a ball in training. Until Wednesday, Davis was limited to running and conditioning drills. Davis is expected to return to the Dynamo lineup Sunday, September 30, when the Dynamo faces FC Dallas in Frisco.

"I've lost count of the weeks since I've been able to be in full training," said Davis. "But it felt really good to train with the guys and knock the ball around. I'm excited to get back out there and start participating again."

Davis has played in 14 games this season, with his last appearance the June 30 match at Dallas. Davis scored a hat trick against Chivas USA on June 21. Since the injury in training in July, Davis has worked diligently with trainer Bruce Morgan to regain his strength and touch, leading to Wednesday's workout.

"The first couple of touches were a little tentative, but I think that is a mental thing more than anything else," said Davis. "I thought I'd be more rusty than I actually was, so my main concern is getting my fitness back."
