TRANSFER TRACKER: Loan

Columbus Crew SC have loaned out midfielder Mohammed Abu to Norwegian first-division side Valerenga Fotball.

Abu, 26, hasn't featured much for the Crew this season, making just four appearances off the bench. In 2017 he started 14 games after being acquired from Stromsgodset IF in Norway. He has earned three caps for the Ghanaian national team.

“Mohammed is a quality player, and this decision was made in an effort to get him the minutes to continue his development,” said Crew SC sporting director and head coach Gregg Berhalter. “We believe that playing for Valerenga provides Mohammed with valuable match action that will allow him to grow as a player.”

The move opens a roster spot for Columbus, who sit fourth in the Eastern Conference. Despite MLS' Secondary Transfer Window having closed, they can still fill the roster spot by signing a free agent up until the 2018 Roster Freeze on September 14.
