With contract up in 2019, Sebastian Giovinco states desire to stay with TFC

If Toronto FC are to pull off a comeback in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League final, it's a safe bet Sebastian Giovinco will be involved.

But just how long will the "Atomic Ant" be pulling TFC's strings?

The 31-year-old Italian talisman tells Kurt Larson in a Toronto Sun report published Tuesday that he is a little ruffled by a lack of progress in contract talks to stay at Toronto beyond the end of the 2019 season.

“I already talk, but they said it’s not the moment [for contract talks],” Giovinco told the Sun. “For them, that’s not a problem, for me it is a little bit. I want to know my future. I have family. I’m 31 years old. For what I do for the city, I think I deserve it, no?”

Added Giovinco: "I already said I want to stay here forever … If not, I have to think about other options.”

As Larson notes, Giovinco has played a role in 10 of Toronto's 11 CCL goals in their run to the final. And his flexibility has been as important as his virtuosity, morphing from an out-and-out striker against MLS sides to more of a provider against Liga MX opposition.
