Conference leaders clash in Toronto

beside the Kansas City game -- we've had."

• Defender Marvell Wynne played in his first game with Toronto after missing more than a month with the U.S. national team. Defender Nick Garcia was questionable to play in Saturday's game after missing two practice sessions because of injury, but played the full 90 minutes.

• "He hasn't played a lot so I was worried if he could get through the 90 minutes, but you see him there with his energy," Cummins said of Wynne. "... Once he got into the rhythm of the game he was outstanding. Marvell gives us so much going forward at times with his athleticism. He's gotten in there and put some crosses in at the right time. Defensively, he was very, very solid as well."

• Barrett had been the subject of criticism from some parts with just two goals and two assists to his credit despite starting 15 games, not having scored since May 2.

• "The good thing about it is even though I haven't been scoring the team's still been doing well," Barrett said. "Now I helped the team tonight." Said Cummins: "He gets some chances from working hard and getting about people and you see tonight he put two of them away."

• De Rosario was selected as part of the MLS All-Star First XI, but with TFC playing the Puerto Rico Islanders in the CONCACAF Champions' League the same evening in Toronto, De Rosario will not be available for the All-Star Game.

• "Obviously it's an honor to be called up to the All-Star team, representing Toronto FC, representing the city, representing Canada and be part of a great event," De Rosario said. "Playing against Everton is a huge opportunity to showcase talent and to promote Toronto FC on a global scale. [But] we have an important game against Puerto Rico, and I know the team wants me to be a part of that game."

HOUSTON DYNAMO

The Houston Dynamo lost for the second time in three games, seeing Seattle Sounders FC come back for a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon at Qwest Field. The Dynamo still lead the Western Conference and MLS overall table with 31 points from 17 matches, now three points ahead of Seattle and six ahead of the tie atop the Eastern Conference.

LAST MATCH

• Sounders FC were unbeaten in four games and had just one loss since mid-April, while the Dynamo defeated Kansas City in their last match after seeing a club-record 11-game undefeated run come to an end at the LA Galaxy the week before.

• The Dynamo opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the match. Keeping the ball alive on the right flank, Dominic Oduro slipped it into the area, where it reached Brian Mullan. Mullan then held off a defender before laying it back for Brad Davis, who stroked home a left-footer for his third goal on the campaign.

• Sounders FC pulled level in the 32nd minute. An early cross from Nate Jaqua on the right flank found Fredy Montero in the area, and after he brought the ball down with his chest, he looped it over goalkeeper Pat Onstad. Dynamo defender Mike Chabala appeared to have cleared the ball off the line, but linesman Emiliano Monje indicated to referee Mark Geiger the ball crossed the line and the goal was given.

• Seattle then second the winner seconds into the second half. A corner kick was put in from the right by Freddie Ljungberg and nodded toward goal by Jhon Kennedy Hurtado. Patrick Ianni alertly saw it bounce and threw himself backwards, hooking a bicycle kick past Kasey Keller and inside the far post for his second career MLS goal and the game-winner.

• Houston had its MLS record streak of 28 matches without a loss when scoring first come to an end.

• Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear made two changes to the team that defeated the Kansas City Wizards 1-0 the week before. With Bobby Boswell and Geoff Cameron both suspended, Kinnear put Julius James and Craig Waibel into the back four.

• Here's Kinnear's team (4-3-1-2): Pat Onstad - Richard Mulrooney, Julius James, Craig Waibel, Mike Chabala (Erik Ustruck 60) - Brian Mullan (Danny Cruz 54), Ricardo Clark, Corey Ashe - Brad Davis - Dominic Oduro (Ade Akinbiyi 62), Kei Kamara. Substitutes Not Used: Wade Barrett, Tally Hall, John Michael Hayden, Cam Weaver

TEAM NEWS

• "They worked their hardest and that's all we can ask for when they step on the field," said Kinnear. "Sometimes it's a lot to overcome and it was too much today. I think at the end of the game, we were pushing hard and trying to get a result out of it and came close on a number of occasions. It's a tough place to play and it's a good team they have. They work a lot of things in their favor and they came out with the win."

• The Dynamo were missing five regulars to suspension and national team duty: Brian Ching and Stuart Holden (USA), Andrew Hainault (Canada), Geoff Cameron and Bobby Boswell (suspension).

• "Injuries aren't really the thing that's hurting us right now," Kinnear said. "I don't really like to talk about the guys who are missing, because it takes away from the guys who are playing. We are shorthanded. So are a lot of teams. It's easy to lean on that as a crutch and say that as an excuse for not winning games. I think we try to avoid that as much as possible."

• Though he had seen time in U.S. Open and CONCACAF Champions League play for the Dynamo, Erik Ustruck made his MLS debut in the game in Seattle.

• "Just told him where to go and that we were probably going to move his position a little bit. Just to give us set pieces and go out and play," Kinnear said. "The message isn't different from the guys playing all the time to maybe a guy making his debut for us -- it's always the same message: go out and play well for us."

• Goalkeeper Pat Onstad was beaten for more than one goal in a game for just the second time this season, and first time since a 3-2 loss at San Jose on March 28. The Dynamo had conceded just six goals in the previous 14 games before the loss to Sounders FC.

• "He's been playing great for us for years and I think he pulled off a wonderful save for us in the first half. He's a credit to the position and he's built a nice career for two reasons: he takes care of himself and he's very good at what he does," said Kinnear. "He's a good goalkeeper."
