Colorado Rapids sign winger Jonathan Lewis to new contract

Jonathan Lewis looks on - Colorado Rapids

The Colorado Rapids have signed winger Jonathan Lewis to a new contract, the club announced Thursday. The 23-year-old, who arrived in Colorado via a trade with NYCFC in 2019, signed with Rapids through the 2024 season.

“We’re very pleased to sign Johnny to a new contract with the club,” Rapids executive VP & GM Pádraig Smith said in a statement. "Johnny showed he is a dangerous attacker as our joint leading goal scorer this past season. He has an incredibly bright future ahead of him and we’re thrilled that it will be in burgundy.”

Lewis scored 13 goals in 65 career MLS regular season appearances, including 10 with Rapids over the last two seasons. His five goals in 2020 was tied for the team high.

Lewis has earned six caps for the US men’s national team, most recently appearing in a 1-0 friendly win over Costa Rica on Feb. 1, 2020.

He is the latest player re-upped for the 2020 season, following defender Lalas Abubakar, who signed a deal through 2024 with a team option for 2025 on Tuesday, while fellow central defender Auston Trustyinked a new contract that runs through 2023 on Wednesday.
