The Colorado Rapids have signed defender Kofi Opare on a one-year deal, the club announced Monday. Opare spent the last five seasons with D.C. United after beginning his career with the LA Galaxy.

Opare's 2018 was given a premature ending as the defender underwent foot surgery at the end of October. The 28-year-old 11 appearances last season for D.C., most of those coming between late-July and mid-September. He made 65 appearances for the team over the last five years.

“Kofi is a talented centerback who will help bring depth and experience to our back line,” Rapids EVP & general manager Padraig Smith said in a statement. “He has spent the majority of preseason training with the team, so he has already integrated himself into our group and has adapted well to our style of play and tactics.”

Opare was a second-round selection (No. 24 overall) by the Galaxy in 2014 after starring at the University of Michigan from 2009-12.
