TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The Colorado Rapids have signed Argentinian winger Braian Galvan from CA Colon on a pre-contract agreement, the club announced Thursday. Galvan will remain with Colon before joining the Rapids at the opening of the Secondary Transfer Window on July 7, after his contract with the Argentine club expires.
Galvan, 19, broke through with Colon to make his debut in 2017 and has made eight league appearances with the club, including four this season with one start. He scored his first senior goal in November.
“Braian is a highly-touted prospect whose development we’ve been monitoring for some time now,” Rapids EVP and GM Padraig Smith said in a statement. “He’s a fast, skillful and talented player who has already made his professional debut and has been a part of the Argentine youth national team system. We see great potential in him and couldn’t be more thrilled to have him join our club.”
Galvan was involved with the U-20 national team in 2018, when he was part of a squad that trained against the senior national team during the 2018 World Cup.
The 19-year-old caps a busy week for the Rapids, who acquired French winger Nicolas Benezet on a TAM deal as well as attacking midfielder Younes Namli as a Designated Player. The offseason has seen the club also add defensively, trading for Lalas Abubakar and Auston Trusty while signing Drew Moor.
Colorado got off to a slow start in 2019 but bounced back to make a push towards the playoffs. They named Robin Fraser head coach towards the end of the season and look to get off to a better start in 2020.
