The weekend’s glamor matchup featured a battle between two of the top three teams in the nation.
Maryland hosted Creighton, as the prolific, high-flying Terrapins offense met a Bluejays defense that hadn’t conceded a goal all year prior to the game.
Something had to give, and it was senior Casey Townsend stepping up for the Terps, grabbing the game’s only goal – his 11th on the season – in the 14th minute for a close 1-0 win for the home side. Next up for Maryland is a Tuesday test against Rutgers before a Friday trip to rivals Virginia.

Connecticut continued rolling, picking up their 10th win of the season against last year’s NCAA championship runners up Louisville. It wasn’t an easy outing for the Huskies, but Stephane Diop’s overtime goal was enough to give them a 1-0 win.
After that loss, the Cardinals now face a team fresh off a loss themselves: Indiana. The Hoosiers suffered their first setback of the season against Wisconsin, a 2-0 loss on the road. IU host Louisville on Wednesday night, in a critical matchup for both teams.
It was also a tough week for UC Santa Barbara. After a strong start to the season, the Gauchos came up short twice: 3-1 against Big West rivals UC Riverside and 2-0 against UC Irvine.
It doesn’t get any easier this week for UCSB as a date with Akron looms on Wednesday night. The Zips opened Mid-American Conference play on Saturday with a convincing 3-0 win against Western Michigan.
North Carolina had their five-game winning streak snapped at home by in-state rivals Duke. Riley Wolfe’s goal with seven minutes remaining secured a 2-2 draw for the Blue Devils, while UNC’s Billy Schuler scored his seventh goal of the season for the Tar Heels.
New Mexico kept their undefeated record alive thanks to a 2-1 win against UNLV. The Lobos conceded an early goal to the Rebels, but scored twice after the break to remain unbeaten.
Opening their Pac-12 schedule the past weekend, UCLA faced a couple of difficult tests at home. The talented Bruins responded with an overtime win over California, thanks to Andy Rose’s goal, and followed that up with a 2-0 defeat of Stanford on Sunday.
The Bruins travel up to the Pacific Northwest this weekend, playing Washington and Oregon State.
