D.C. United have re-signed outside back Chris Odoi-Atsem for two years, keeping him with the Black-and-Red through the 2022 season. The deal also carries an option for the 2023 season.

Odoi-Atsem, 25, was selected by D.C. United No. 12 overall in 2017 SuperDraft out of the University of Maryland. He’s made 28 MLS appearances (14 starts) across four seasons and scored one goal.

“Chris has really grown as a player since he joined the club and he had his best season last year, consistently performing well for us at outside back,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said in a club release. “His energy and dynamism in both defense and going forward bring a lot to our side and we look forward to the positive impact he will continue to have on our team for years to come.”

Odoi-Atsem appeared in a career-high 15 games this past season, having previously battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma that limited him to a combined four appearances across the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.

Odoi-Atsem was out of contract after 2020, though was listed as receiving a bonafide offer. Now, the Maryland native is remaining right with the only MLS club he's ever known.
