Chivas USA sign midfielder López

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA announced today signing of 18-year-old midfielder Rodrigo López as a Developmental Player. The Red-and-White jersey of Chivas has been worn before by the talented Guadalajara native, who trained with Club Guadalajara's youth system for a year and-a-half before returning to his hometown of Santa Barbara, California in February 2005 to finish his studies at Santa Barbara High School.


López, who holds dual U.S. and Mexican citizenship, has been a player in the U.S. Soccer Federation's Olympic Development Program (ODP) and is currently a member of the player pool of the U.S. U-18 National Team led by Head Coach Bob Jenkins.


Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, López moved to California at age two with his parents Álvaro López and Elvira Álvarez. He began playing soccer in AYSO leagues at age three. He has two brothers, Álvaro, age 8, and Carmen, age 20. Rodrigo currently resides in Harbor City.
