TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Transfer

The Chicago Fire have acquired dual national goalkeeper Kenneth Kronholm from 2. Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel, the club announced Tuesday. Born in Virginia, Kronholm will not require an international roster spot.

Kronholm, 33, has extensive experience in Germany, with 173 appearances between the second and third tiers of German soccer. He has made a total 326 professional appearances with 91 clean sheets across all competitions.

“Kenneth is a player that we have scouted and pursued at length,” president and general manager Nelson Rodríguez said in a statement. “We believe his talents fit our game model very well and he was really committed to joining our Club. We’re looking forward to welcoming him to Chicago.”

This season, he made 30 appearances and kept six clean sheets in the 2. Bundesliga. Kronholm joins David Ousted, Richard Sanchez and Stefan Cleveland on the goalkeeping depth chart, while 14-year-old Gabriel Slonina was recently signed to a Homegrown deal.
