Carlos Vela warns Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez: "If he comes here, he’s going to lose"

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez hasn’t yet been signed by the LA Galaxy, but that hasn’t stopped Carlos Vela from trash taking his friend and one-time Mexican national teammate.

The LAFC forward said he’s already laid down the groundwork with Chicharito on what to expect should the two go head-to-head in El Trafico.

“He already knows, I already told him that if he comes here, he’s going to lose and if he scores a goal I will score one more than him,” Vela told Univision Thursday. “He’s already warned, he knows if he’s coming here.”

It might sound scary to the rest of the league, but having another El Tri star in the City of Angels could be the spark for an even better season than Vela had in 2019, when he smashed the league’s scoring record and won the Landon Donovan MVP Award.

“It’s going to be an extra motivation for me to be able to continue being the best or try to be better,” he said, adding Chicharito’s potential arrival is “very important for the league, for the city, for our clásico."

While there will likely be a heated debate over which Mexican is better or more valuable to their team, LAFC coach Bob Bradley said he wouldn’t trade Vela for Chicharito.

“For us, the kind of football we play, Carlos is so special. His ability to make different kind of plays, move with the ball, still score goals, this is Messi-like,” Bradley said. “So, no, we’re not trading Carlos for anyone.”
