Carles Gil – New England Revolution – close up

Limited to just 152 minutes in 2020 due to injuries, Carles Gil may be on the precipice of a return way ahead of schedule.

Gil returned to New England Revolution full team training on Thursday, a little more than two months after undergoing surgery on his left Achilles. The original prognosis was a 3-5 month recovery period, with many fearing his season was over.

The Revs face Nashville SC on Friday (8:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info). Gil was not listed on the injury report, fueling speculation that he may be available to return.

Gil, 27, was the 2019 MLS Newcomer of the Year after a stellar debut campaign in the league. He had 10 goals and 14 assists while starting all 34 games for New England.

He is one of three attacking Designated Players for the Revs, next to Gustavo Bou and Adam Buksa. Bou and Gil became one of the league's deadliest duos last summer while Buksa joined in the winter to give New England one of the league's most opulent attacking groups. Gil's injury meant the trio have him minimal time on the pitch together.

New England have four regular season matches left for Gil to get his match fitness and sharpness back ahead of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, with the Revs well on course to qualify.
