Canada's Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich cruise into UEFA Champions League quarterfinals

Alphonso Davies - heads ball - Bayern v Chelsea

Canada national team and former Vancouver Whitecaps star Alphonso Davies will be among those playing in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals in Portugal after Bayern Munich comfortably advanced past Chelsea with a 4-1 home victory on Saturday.

After winning their round of 16 tie 7-1 on aggregate, Bayern will face FC Barcelona in their single-game, neutral site quarterfinal. Barcelona also defeated Napoli 3-1 on Saturday to advance 4-2 on aggregate.

US men's national team star Christian Pulisic remained out with a hamstring injury for Chelsea.

Davies went the full 90 and had a solid defensive performance against a Chelsea team that entered Allianz Arena requiring a boatload of goals to have any chance of advancing.

Going forward, Davies twice nearly connected with Thomas Muller for an assist, the best look coming with an inswinging ball from the left flank in the 61st minute.

Davies appeared to take a minor knock very late and was not on the field at the final whistle, but was walking around the perimeter under his own power. He was technically still in the match, with Bayern having already used their permitted subs.
