Canada turn the page on a disappointing 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup tournament as they host Cuba to open 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League play in League A, Group A, each team looking to get a result before their other group stage foe, the US national team, begins play in the competition.

Les Rouges, featuring their most hyped squad in nearly 20 years, crashed out in the quarterfinal round of the Gold Cup to Haiti. But they will look to push on under John Herdman and perhaps as importantly, look to rack up wins in an effort to improve their chances of qualifying for the Hexagonal round of Concacaf 2022 World Cup qualifying, after changes to the format took the CanMNT by surprise.

Canada will be facing a Cuban squad that finished in last place in their group — which also happened to be Canada's — at the Gold Cup. But the program recently made news as forward Luis Paradela was signed on loan by USL Championship side Reno 1868 FC. Paradela, who started all three games for Cuba at the Gold Cup, remains eligible for the Cuban national team and is the first Cuban athlete to receive a P-1A athlete visa in the United States.

Canada lead the all-time series between the countries, posting a 7-2-3 record against Los Leones del Caribe, most recently a 7-0 thrashing in Gold Cup play on June 23.
