Atiba Hutchinson - celebrating - Besiktas

Anyone hoping to see Canada men's national team legend Atiba Hutchinson in Major League Soccer will have to wait a little while longer.

Hutchinson, 37, signed a one-year deal with Besiktas over the weekend, extending his stay at the Turkish powerhouse. The central midfielder has been with Besiktas since the 2013-14 season, amassing 19 goals and 15 assists in 253 appearances. Hutchinson has won two Super Lig titles with Besiktas.

Throughout the years, Hutchinson has been linked to all three Canadian MLS teams: Montreal Impact, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps. However, the versatile veteran has never returned home since departing for Europe in the mid-2000s, with other prominent stops at PSV Eindhoven and FC Copenhagen.

On the international scene, Hutchinson has scored seven goals in 84 appearances for Canada’s national team. He broke into the side at the 2003 Concacaf Gold Cup and hasn’t looked back since.
