Can an “Average Joe” score on a free kick against an MLS goalkeeper?
That’s what GQ staff writer Clay Skipper sought out to accomplish as part of the magazine’s “Above Average Joe” series on YouTube.
Skipper didn’t just go into the challenge cold. He sought out the advice of the New York City FC duo of Alex Ring and Anton Tinnerholm in his first day of practice at the club’s training facility before making his way to the New York Red Bulls facility where Danny Royer provided his expertise.
Skipper took what he learned to Red Bull Arena to go head-to-head against Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan Meara. The goal was to score one free kick out of 11 attempts.
