Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente voted 2019 MLS All-Star Game MVP

Marcos Llorente - All-Star 2019 - wide shot

Marcos Llorente is one of the key additions to Atletico Madrid's lineup for the upcoming La Liga season, and on Wednesday, the midfielder made an impact at the 2019 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Fla., scoring the winning goal in a 3-0 victory over the MLS All-Star Team.

Llorente was voted MLS All-Star Game MVP for his performance, as his tally just before halftime from a run up the middle of the All-Star Team's defense broke through and beat All-Star goalkeeper Andre Blake. Llorente played 57 minutes in the match before being substituted for Saul Ñiguez.

Llorente is one of the big additions to Atleti's squad this summer, joining from crosstown rival Real Madrid, where he came through the academy and played across three seasons. The 24-year-old has fascinating family ties to the sport in Madrid: Both his father and a grandfather also played for both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in their careers. Llorente will have competition to break through in Atletico's robust midfield, but the player looks like he could be a good signing for Diego Simeone's squad.
