Goal of the Matchday

Atlanta's Pity Martinez wins AT&T Goal of the Week with debut MLS strike

Atlanta United fans have been anxiously awaiting Pity Martinez’s first goal in MLS play, and once it finally arrived over the weekend, they were clearly ready to give it their vote.

With 63% of ballots cast, the Argentine star’s game-winning blast vs. Orlando City SC on Sunday is the runaway victor of the AT&T Goal of the Week race for Week 11, continuing the trend of big turnouts for nominees from the Five Stripes.

Pity’s curling, dipping left-footed blast easily outpaced the latest golazo from Cristian Roldan of the Seattle Sounders, which finished at 31%.

The textbook Chicago Fire counterattack finished by Nico Gaitan came in third with 4%, followed by D.C. United’s Paul Arriola at 2% and LAFC superstar Carlos Vela at under 1%.
