Atlanta United's Carleton scores as US U-20s fall to Honduras in friendly

Andrew Carleton battles against India in FIFA Under-17 World Cup

The US U-20 national team fell 3-1 to their Honduras counterparts in a friendly at Estadio Morazan in San Pedro Sula on Thursday, with Atlanta UnitedHomegrown winger Andrew Carleton the goalscorer for the visitors.

Carleton opened the scoring with a run and finish down the left channel in the 32nd minute, but that early lead evaporated for the US as Carlos Mejia, Patrick Palacios and Gerson Chavez scored three unanswered goals for Los Catrachos, helped by a straight red for the US goalkeeper.

The game was the first of two friendlies between the two nations this week, with a rematch on Saturday capping a 12-day training camp for U-20s head coach Tab Ramos and his players.

Ramos & Co. are gearing up for a new World Cup cycle, which peaks with next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
