TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension

Atlanta United have inked a multiyear contract extension with recently-acquired defender Brooks Lennon that will keep the fullback/winger at his new club through 2023, the Five Stripes announced on Tuesday.

Atlanta acquired Lennon, 22, from Real Salt Lake earlier this month in exchange for $150,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and $150,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

A product of RSL’s academy system, Lennon also spent two years at English giants Liverpool from 2015-17 before rejoining Salt Lake, where he’s made 86 league appearances (63 starts) over the past three seasons, scoring three goals and registering 10 assists.

Internationally, Lennon has represented the United States at multiple youth national team levels, most recently with the Under-23 side currently preparing for 2020 Olympic qualifying, and has been called into USMNT camp but is yet to earn his first cap.

Also on Tuesday, Atlanta announced that it has re-signed goalkeeper Alec Kann. The 29-year-old started two matches in 2019, including helping the team to a 3-2 victory over Club America in Campeones Cup.

“Over the last three years, Alec has consistently worked hard on a daily basis to be prepared to step up when his name is called and we’re pleased to have re-signed him,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said in a team release.. “He brings a level of competition and experience to our group of goalkeepers that is vital and is something we strive for at every position.”
