Atlanta United to face Club America in 2019 Campeones Cup on August 14

Atlanta United will host Liga MX powerhouses Club América in the 2019 edition of the Campeones Cup, following América's penalty shootout victory over Tigres UANL in the annual Campeón de Campeones match.

The Campeones Cup — first played in 2018 — pits the reigning MLS Cup winners against the winner of Campeón de Campeones, an annual summer match played between the winners of Liga MX's Apertura and Clausura tournaments.

This year's Campeones Cup will be played on August 14 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and will provide Atlanta a stern test against international opposition with a trophy on the line. Tickets are on sale now at CampeonesCup.com or on Ticketmaster.

Last year's edition saw Tigres top Toronto FC 3-1, getting a measure of revenge after TFC's epic series win in the 2018 Concacaf Champions League. Atlanta earned their spot this year thanks to their 2-0 win over Portland in MLS Cup 2018, while 2018 Apertura winners América topped 2019 Clausura winners Tigres 6-5 on a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw in regulation.
