Toronto FC's longest-tenured player has signed a new deal with the club to remain in Ontario.

The club announced on Friday they have re-signed defender Ashtone Morgan.

The fullback made seven MLS regular season appearances for TFC in 2016, all off the bench. Morgan is the longest-tenured player on the team, having joined the club in 2011 on a Homegrown contract.

ā€œWe are pleased to finalize this deal ensuring that Ashtone will remain a part of Toronto FC,ā€ said Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko in a team statement. ā€œAshtone has spent his entire professional career with TFC after progressing through our Academy. This is a reflection of our approach towards player development and its role on our roster in creating a consistent contender in MLS. He had a difficult year due to injury but has responded when called upon and will remain a valued member of our club heading into the 2017 season.ā€

The 25-year-old has spent his entire six-year career with Toronto FC. Morgan has made 123 appearances, registering 14 assists across all competitions with TFC.

He is also a Canadian international, earning 13 caps to date, and was the first TFC academy graduate to debut for the Canadian senior national team.
