Arena to speak to largest-ever group at D.C. United's 'First XI Luncheon'

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United and its non-profit arm, United for D.C., today announced its annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon, presented by Blue Eagle Industries and the DC Sports & Entertainment Commission, has sold the highest-ever number of tickets in its four-year history. Accordingly, the event's revenue is also the highest ever. The First XI Luncheon will take place next Tuesday, March 28 at the Marriott at Metro Center. Former United skipper, and current head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team, Bruce Arena, will be featured as the keynote speaker, while coaches and players from the 2006 D.C. United squad will be introduced. The Luncheon serves as a fundraiser for United for D.C.

"We are very pleased with the great turnout we will entertain on Tuesday," said Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and Community Relations Director of D.C. United. "We're very thankful our fans and sponsors for their support of D.C. United and United for D.C. The revenue generated from this great event will go to help many underprivileged and disadvantaged youth in the D.C. area."

A limited number of seats may still be available for the Luncheon, but those interested must contact the number below as soon as possible to determine opportunities. Tickets to the event will not be sold at the door. Tables may be available for $750 each, which allows for nine individuals to sit with a player or coach during the event, while individual spots are available for $90 per person. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed under the law. United for D.C. will also host a silent auction with items from D.C. United, other teams across Major League Soccer and other sports teams and places of business.

The event will be emcee-ed by Tony Limarzi, 'the radio voice" of D.C. United,' and Russ Thaler of Comcast SportsNet. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. on March 28, with lunch set for 12 noon.
