American Exports: Williams, Hoffenheim advance in Cup

AMSTERDAM — A handful of American Exports clocked in for Tuesday duty in Europe, with Daniel Williams going all 90 minutes and teammate Fabian Johnson on for the final seven as Hoffenheim advanced to the third round of the DfB Pokal with a 2-1 win over Cologne.


In other German Cup action, Paderborn forward Matt Taylor was issued a yellow card shortly after entering at halftime of a 4-0 drubbing at Greuther Fürth.


Meanwhile, 1860 Munich attack apprentice Bobby Wood took part in the last 22 minutes of a 3-0 ouster at Fortuna Düsseldorf.


Over in England's League One, Anton Peterlin went the distance in Walsall's 2-1 home defeat to Exeter City. With two straight losses, the Saddlers stand just a point above the relegation fray.


Mike Grella worked 14 relief minutes as slipping Brentford fell 1-0 to visiting Stevenage. The result leaves the 11th-place Bees winless in five league games and with three losses in the last four home games.
